Owen Too Old For Oz (Video)

When Michael Owen burst on to the world stage in France in 1998 with that stunning run and finish against Argentina he was a fresh faced 18 year old but age is inevitable.

Owen’s appearance hasn’t changed much since those days, of course there a few more wrinkles and a bit more face fuzz but those of you willing to search for #MichaelOwenFacts on twitter you will find plenty of jokes about the striker still being a child.

In the 14 years that have past the former Liverpool player has also had stays at Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United and now with Stoke City. Owen moved to The Britannia Stadium this season, after his contract ended at Old Trafford, but injuries (what else) have limited the former England international to just 4 Premier League appearances.

A lack of game time has seen the former England international linked with other clubs, particularly Australian side Perth Glory but their coach, Ian Ferguson, has ruled out any move for the 33 year old.

Ferguson said: “Michael is a player who comes with a high pedigree but it’s not the direction I want to take the club.

“I am looking for a younger player and a player who has been playing more regularly. I have three or four irons in the fire that I am pursuing, which is good.

“In terms of Michael, there was contact from an agent if we were interested. It was discussed at a good level but I have made the decision he is not the player we needed at Perth Glory.”
