Take a bow Grafite – Goal of the week

Grafite is a name surprisingly not known to many football fans. The Brazilian striker played in his home country for years, before spells in France and even South Korea, scoring goals everywhere he went.

However it was his time with German side Wolfsburg which really established the burly hit-man as one of the world’s best strikers. Grafite was a scorer of great-goals as well as being a great goal-scorer, and formed a formidable partnership with Edin Dzeko to win the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg in the 2008-09 season for the first time ever. Grafite finished as top-scorer with an incredible 28 goals in 25 games, including this superb solo-effort in the 5-1 victory against Bayern Munich. Yes Bayern Munich, the all-conquering kings of Europe being destroyed. Take note Barcelona and Arsenal, this is how you do it.

Grafite went on to play another two seasons in Germany, but his form dipped with the sale of Dzeko to Manchester City and Wolfsburg have not been the same side since. The 34-year-old is now playing football UAE side Al-Ahli, but shows no sign of slowing down, scoring 19 goals in 16 games this season. He has also been capped 4 times for Brazil, a victim to the strength in depth the nation has.
