Manchester United are suffering their worst ever start to a Premier League season. David Moyes took the reins in the summer after what seemed like a lifetime of the Sir Alex Ferguson tenure. Despite his limited success with Everton, Moyes was the overwhelming favourite and landed the job off the back of a Fergie recommendation.
It’s been a long few months for United. Losses to West Brom and rivals Manchester City and Liverpool sees the Red Devils sitting in 9th place, two spots under Moyes’ former club Everton, who are now under the guidance of Roberto Martinez.
The Toffees have looked brilliant under the Spaniard and have adapted to the silky style with ease. While they pop the ball about the pitch, Romelu Lukaku spearheads the attack and ensures they have a bit of bite about them.
United on the other hand, have the pressure resting on their shoulders and it appears to be holding them down. Robin van Persie’s goals have dried up, Rio Ferdinand’s form has fallen to pieces and the midfield problem still exists.
Reinforcements are likely to come in over the early months of next year and you’d expect that they will shoot up the table sooner rather than later. But with Everton’s stringent defence and the likes of Ross Barkley and Lukaku in their attack then who knows.
