Liverpool have started brightly this season and are going from strength to strength in the forward department. Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are currently ripping the Premier League apart with their intricate movement and willingness to run at players, and their new-look backline looks as though it will need something special to fully knock them down. But while either end of the pitch impresses, I want to focus on the position that glues the side together, the pivots.
Steven Gerrard and Lucas Leiva are the players who have operated in the central areas so far this term and they have done a sterling job. However, the Mirror are reporting that Brendan Rodgers is lining up a move for Ghanaian holding midfielder Daniel Amartey.
The 18-year-old isn’t your typical anchorman in a way that he isn’t the tallest nor is he the shortest, and has the composure on the ball of someone twice his age.
He has made 22 appearances so far this season with Djurgarden – a Swedish outfit – and has impressed a huge wave of spectators.
Although Gerrard and Lucas don’t need to worry about is presence just yet, the teen has the talent and the mentality to replace either one of them in the long term, in my eyes.
He holds a range of passing akin to Gerrard and the bit, tenacity and bustling approach that Lucas displays, and he should only get better with age.
I for one would love to see him on English shores, whether that be at Liverpool or another club.
