Aston Villa sit 11th in the Premier League table after 20 games having tallied up 23 points. They have won just once in their last six, however, and the fans are starting to grow restless, so here are three players who I think need to pull up their socks.
1) Matthew Lowton
For me, the 24-year-old has been one of the most infuriating players in the Premier League this season. I have become used to seeing him bossing games from the back but he’s been atrocious this season.
He has won just 37% of his overall battles, which includes a measly 34% tackles success, and just eight of his 18 headed duels.
2) Christian Benteke
A simple one in the big Belgian striker. Benteke got off to a good start this term, scoring four in his opening four games, but after an injury he is now 10 league games without a goal. He scored 19 league goals last season and was one of the standout players in the entire divisions, but his reputation has taken a battering so far.
3) Aleksander Tonev
The winger has struggled since arriving at Villa Park in the summer and is in desperate need of some form. The 23-year-old Bulgarian has played in 14 of Villa’s 20 league outings and scored none, made just two key passes and won just 40% of his take ons.
