Manchester United Bid £20m For Chelsea Target, But Would The Money Be Better Spent Elsewhere?

Hands up who thinks Manchester United needs a midfielder? All of us? Okay. Well how about Juventus’ Claudio Marchisio?Well, the Express say that the Red Devils have put in a £20m bid for the player, who has also been linked with Chelsea. Want to know more about him? Let’s have a quick look then.

He is a defensive midfielder who is comfortable driving up the pitch with the ball at his feet. He has looked slack in the tackle this season, though he has made his name by running the game from the holding role.

He has made 17 key passes in his 13 Serie A appearances though and displayed his more offensive side, having 15 shots at goal and hitting the target with 60% of those.

He’s not an outstanding player, nor is he likely to be the match winner, but he plugs away in the middle of the pitch and his absence is felt when he’s not in the team.

For me, I’m not sure he is the player they need. He is 27 years of age and is a similar player to Michael Carrick, and with Darren Fletcher and Marouane Fellaini be capable in the holding role and Tom Cleverley adding the energy into the midfield, I would suggest to David Moyes that he should spend the £20m elsewhere.
