26-year-old Porto defensive midfielder Fernando’s contract is due to expire next summer and he could be available for a cut price, which has now alerted Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who apparently joins Manchester United in the hunt for this powerful midfielder.
The Brazilian midfielder is tough in the tackle and not afraid to put a foot in, he is athletic, and stands at 6ft tall so will offer height to any midfield.
Liverpool already have a quality holding midfielder in their ranks in Lucas, and Gerrard is taking a deeper role these days, so any move for Fernando doesn’t seem too desperate.
If Fernando is cheap enough he could however, offer decent cover but for a player well sought after at Porto, I wouldn’t imagine this is something the player would want.
It’s well known that Manchester United’s midfield needs strengthen this January and the Brazilian would certainly tighten United up and help break up any advancing opposition attack.
Moyes needs to find a way to keep out goals at Old Trafford, which has been a fortress in recent seasons. The goals against column is certainly a problem and needs rectifying quickly and landing Fernando could be the first step to achieving that.
