No Monreal? How Arsenal Should Line Up Against Manchester United

The big game of this evening is Arsenal vs Manchester United, and both teams are in desperate need of the points but for very different reasons. Arsenal are looking to climb back to the top of the Premier League with a victory, and United are trying to rejuvenate the disappointing season so far with a, perhaps, shock win. The onus is on the home side after United’s shoddy form, so how should they line up to try and get a result?

With Wojciech Szczesny in goal, I would stick Bacary Sagna at right-back, keep Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny in the middle and deploy Kieran Gibbs in the left-back berth rather than Nacho Monreal, who disappointed against Liverpool.

In the two pivots I would opt for Jack Wilshere, who has returned from an injury, and Mikel Arteta, who has held the fort for so long this season.

On the left Santi Cazorla is obviously going to be involved, and to his right is where Mesut Ozil is going to be operating from. Up front will be Olivier Giroud, probably, but the right wing position is a difficult one to fill.

I would probably go with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the flank after his fine form from the last few weeks. The midfielder has six appearances to his name this season and has scored twice, and I think his energy could really hurt United.
