David Moyes has had a miserable season with Manchester United this year and has subsequently been sacked. According to reports, Ryan Giggs is favourite to take over as Red Devils boss. But here are three reasons why I would forget about appointing him if I was in charge.
1) Experience
Ryan Giggs has no managerial experience whatsoever, so to put him in charge of one of the biggest clubs on the planet would be a huge risk, obviously.
He has been doing his coaching badges and is due to take up a role at the club in that aspect, but I think it would be too much of a risk to put him in permanently as manager.
2) Fresh start
The sacking of Moyes is a chance to write this season off as a mistake, albeit a costly one, and start fresh next season. This means cutting ties with all the current coaching staff and recruiting a whole new team to take the club forward.
For me they need to get a hungry manager who has had previous success to a certain degree, like Jurgen Klopp, Louis van Gaal or Antonio Conte. Giggs doesn’t fit into that category just yet, so I would write him off.
3) Short term option
Appointing Giggs until the end of the season could work, but the campaign is now dead. Long term, there is no way Giggs could step up, in my eyes, and the club need someone to settle into a structure for a reasonable time to come.
