We are treated by a glut of Champions League clashed tonight, so I thought that I would take the time out to check out which players have averaged the most key passes per game according to Who Scored.

1) Franck Ribery – Bayern Munich

The France international has been listed in the final three with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ballon d’Or award recently, and rightly so.

He has had a remarkable year on the football pitch and his form in the Champions League this season typifies that.

He has made 15 key passes in his four appearances, which is an average of 3.8.

2) Juan Mata – Chelsea

After a sticky start to the season the Spaniard has really settled into the season and has become a star player again.

In the Champions League this season he has made seven key passes, but seeing as he’s made just one start and one other appearance means that he has averaged 3.5 key passes per game.

3) Nicolas Gaitan – Benfica

Probably the most unknown player in the list, but a talented one nonetheless. The Benfica star has made four appearances in the competition this season and has averaged 3.5 key passes per game.

4) Samir Nasri – Manchester City

Nasri is having a tremendous season under Manuel Pellegrini and it’s showing in Europe. Not only has he completed 16 key balls in his five appearances, an average of 3.2 per game, but he’s also claimed four assists in that time.

5) Mesut Ozil – Arsenal

The German has been a revelation this season since joining the north London side. In the Champions League so far he has averaged three key passes per game, claimed two assists and scored once.
