The Mirror is reporting that Arsene Wenger is eyeing up a £35 million move for German starlet Julian Draxler and wants to turn the attacking midfielder into a centre forward.
Some may think £35 million is a lot of a 20-year-old, but the Schalke star has been touted as one of Germany’s next best products and has already forced his way into the senior German team.
Arsene Wenger has a habit of getting the best out of players and would certainly be an intelligent choice to make a move for Draxler, who is already making a name for him in the Bundesliga.
Wenger had signed Robin Van Persie as a wide player in 2004 before transforming the Dutchman into a centre-forward and goal machine whilst at the North London club.
Arsenal have a strong German contingent amongst their squad, too, with Mertesacker, Ozil, Podolski and Gnarby. This would help the youngster settle in and could just help make him his mind about signing for the Gunners, should a move by Arsene Wenger develop.
From Draxler’s current position left wing, he has so far managed 1 goal and 5 assists from 14 appearances. It remains to be seen whether a move will come this transfer window or in the summer, with Draxler currently sidelined due to injury.
