Arsene Wenger has been under immense pressure over the last couple of years, as the Frenchman has now failed to deliver a trophy to the north London club for nine years. Although the club has been an ever-present in the Champions League group stages, silverware is what really matters to those in the crowd, and Wenger hasn’t delivered.
For me, I think he should be given the boot in the summer. Although there is a strong chance of Arsenal lifting the FA Cup soon, I think the party needs a reshuffle.
The man who I would put forward for the job is Frank De Boer. When the former Netherlands international took the reins at Ajax, the club were a shambles. However, after implementing his own backroom staff – which includes Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp – he has now won four topflight titles in as many seasons.
He has done so playing youth team players, playing silky football and spending next to nothing on transfer fees. The Arsenal way, if you will.
I think he is the right fit for the club, and could carry on Wenger’s style but do so with an added bite to the team.
Oh, and it would also deliver a blow to fierce rivals Tottenham, who are supposedly interested in appointing the 43-year-old.
