Frank Lampard may be 36 this year, but Chelsea are said to be close to agreeing a new one year deal for the attacking midfielder. But is he good enough to warrant another season at Stamford Bridge?
My instant reaction is yes, he is worth another full season. Last season Lampard played 26 Premier League games and scored six games. He may not be the dynamic midfielder he once was but he can still score goals and make things happen in the top tier.
The problem Chelsea may have is that is unable to drop into a deep position like Paul Scholes or Steven Gerrard did late into their careers as he simply doesn’t possess the passing facility that those two do.
His game as always been based around the late runs into the box and the long shots that he can hit with so much venom.
Last season he had 57 shots, made 34 key passes and completed 82.4% of his passes.
I think a year is a fair deal, but it may only be a year.
