Having won their first 11 home games of the Premier League season and scored a truck-load of goals, Manchester City were rightly confident that they could fend off a Chelsea side with next to no bite in their frontline.
Some news to bring a smile to the faces of Manchester United fans across the globe now, as it appears that David Moyes will be handed a massive £150m war chest in the summer to turn his sides’ fortunes around. The same reports – cited by the Daily Star – say that Edinson Cavani is a top target for the Old Trafford club, which begs the question – is the Uruguayan the answer to their problems?
I do not envy Chelsea one bit right now. The capital club travel north to take on a free-flowing Manchester City side tonight in order to keep pace with the top two, and a win would take them above City in the Premier League table.
We are now 24 games into the current Premier League season and things are getting juicy. The January transfer window has slammed shut so squads are shaping up to play out the remainder of the season, while the table is shaped in a way that clubs know what they are playing for.
Manchester City host Chelsea today in a much anticipated, top of the table clash at the Etihad. Arsenal reclaimed top spot on Sunday afternoon with a solid 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, but should the hosts claim all three points tonight then they will return to the summit. It won’t be an easy game though, obviously, so how can Manuel Pellegrini go about beating the Blues, who are managed by Jose Mourinho?
Heading into the business end to the season, Arsenal are sat at the top of the Premier League and looking good for some silverware this term. They could drop to second tonight as Manchester City and Chelsea go toe-to-toe tonight, but for now the Gunners are enjoying life at the top. However, in my opinion they don’t hold the fire power that the other challengers do, and will need to find a way of keeping Olivier Giroud fresh.
Being a Manchester United fan has been frustrating this season. From the 23 years that I have been on this planet, I have been traveling the country following my club for about 10 of those, and have generally enjoyed a successful time. Now, fans of clubs lower down the football pyramid may be responding in an apathetic fashion, but by successful I am talking about following United into other peoples’ back yards and really going at them, win or lose.
