If it’s not broken – don’t fix it. That’s a rule I live by and has proved to be a popular one in football, too. Some managers like to rotate their players to keep the squad fresh, but others, like Arsene Wenger, stick to their best team when they know it.
It’s commonplace for a manager to go in for players who they have previously worked with as they know exactly what they are about. It could be happening again this summer as the Express are hinting at a Chelsea move for Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira – a player who Jose Mourinho worked with while in charge of the Spanish outfit. However, it’s a move that I am unsure about for a couple of reasons.
Last week we were treated to another Jose Mourinho special. The Chelsea manager labelled Arsene Wenger – a coach with numerous major trophies under his belt and 17 years experience in charge of one of the country’s biggest clubs – a specialist in failure.
Name three players who you would like to see come into Manchester United, or a few that could really strengthen the side and the chances are that all three would be midfielders. You won’t be surprised then that the Mirror are reporting the Red Devils to a trio of midfield players, all of which who play in the Bundesliga. Let’s have a quick flick through.
With January done and dusted, there are going to be players who are not in their manager’s plans but will have to play the rest of the season at their current club, or at least watch. That seems to be the case with Shinji Kagawa at Manchester United, as the Japan international will have to wait until the summer for a move if he indeed wants out of the club.
With Liverpool battering Arsenal at Anfield a few weeks ago the Gunners were given a chance to get a little revenge. They hosted the Merseyside outfit at the Emirates in the fifth round of the FA Cup this afternoon and ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski, but Liverpool have the right to be slightly disappointed with being thrown out of the cup.
Not many expected Liverpool to trounce Arsenal 5-1 a couple of outings ago in the Premier League up at Anfield, and not many are expecting a score line like that tomorrow afternoon as the two face off in the FA Cup. Liverpool fans will be the confident bunch though after said result, and they have reason to be. But how should Brendan Rodgers line his side up? Here’s my thoughts on it.
