Out of the many signings Manchester City have made since their injection of petro dollars, there is a very strong argument that there have been none more important than that of Yaya Toure.
In his 26 years at Manchester United, I’m sure Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t hold many regrets, but his failure to keep Paul Pogba at the club may be one.
With news emerging this week that Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski will sign a contract with rivals Bayern Munich in January (how?) as Jurgen Klopp loses another of his prized assets to reigning Bundesliga champions.
If you’ve read past articles of mine you will realise that I am quite a big follower of youth football, and as I have such a strong interest in the field, then a player of Hector Bellerin’s talent will not go unnoticed. I mentioned him in yesterdays article about 5 players that could make the step up to the first team this year. The 18-year-old is a former La Masia student. Those of you that don’t know, that’s where all the homegrown Barcelona players progressed from. Wenger is famous for plucking young Spaniards out at this level as he’s already done it with Francesc Fabregas.
A lot was said upon the German’s arrival. Those who had watched Dortmund’s youth when Eisfeld and Mario Gotze were members would say that actually the former was more talented than the latter. The only thing that stopped Eisfeld pipping Gotze to a first team place was the fact that Thomas suffered a horrific injury that kept him out of action for a long period of time.
It’s the 26th of August 2013, my mate and I are watching a game at the Millerntor–Stadion. St Pauli FC host Dynamo Dresden for the 5th match day of the German second Bundesliga. At the 88th minute the score is tied at one – nobody was expecting this score line. The home team has been playing better throughout the match but they went one goal down before equalizing, and at that moment fans are still hoping for a win although they don’t seem so optimistic. St Pauli win a dangerous free kick. Sebastian Maier comes in for Fin Bartels and runs directly towards the ball, take a few steps back and gets ready to shoot.
Luis Suarez is back. And, for better or for worse, he is still a Liverpool player.
