Thin squad could draw Everton into relegation battle

After the extremely fortuitous win at Blackburn on Saturday, goalkeeper Tim Howard could not contain his relief in his side picking up their first win of the season after surviving two missed penalties and numerous chances created by the home side which included two denials by the woodwork. The win which the American described as “that bit of luck” was secured by a late Mikel Arteta penalty, awarded harshly by referee Mike Dean, and he went on to say something rather foreboding for what Everton fans can expect this season. “I remember two years ago we were winning games late all the time. It’s important for us to keep that going. That’s what the Premier League is about, keeping yourself in the game”.

North London in mourning

First was the absolute slaughter of Arsenal. To say I was shocked was an understatement and I’m no Gooner. The 8-2 thrashing of Arsenal was very telling. The 2-5 drubbing if Tottenham even more so. A quick glance of the Premier league table shows Manchester Utd occupying first spot, Manchester City in second and Liverpool and Chelsea occupying third and fourth respectively. The top two have a combined goal difference of 19.

City, the real deal?

“Manchester City have a multi million pound squad, but can they challenge for top honours?” a question that everyone in football has grown accustomed to since the City Sheikh up in recent years.

Pre Man Utd

I think it’s fair to say that being an Arsenal fan over the past week alone has seen every single emotion pour out of the Emirates Stadium; Anger at the poor start to the Premier League campaign, relief after making it into the group stages of the Champions League and the familiar feeling of pure frustration with Wenger not getting his wallet out once more.

Reds maintain expectations

There’s an expression in football for a certain type of team. A team with, maybe three or four good players and the rest are all pretty ordinary. If you happen to be one of the “ordinary” players, then the team is said to be carrying you. Carrying you in the sense that you can’t contribute anything to the game.
