Which club had the best transfer window?

The transfer window slammed shut on August 31, and clubs around Europe finalised their incoming and outgoing signings for the 2021/22 season.

It has been one of the most high-profile transfer windows in recent years, with billions spent on some of the biggest names in world football moving on to pastures new.

Most notably, two of the best-ever players in football history moved to new clubs. Lionel Messi ended his 16-year senior career at a financially stricken Barcelona and joined European powerhouses Paris St Germain. Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo also moved clubs, leaving Juventus and joining former team Man United instead.

With squads across Europe’s top leagues finalised in recent days, we look at who had the best transfer summer transfer window, and who may lead the picks for major titles this season.

Paris St Germain

French giants PSG did not hesitate to move for some of Europe’s big names once they became available this summer. They quickly moved for Euro 2020 Golden Glove winner Gianluigi Donnarumma, signing the former AC Milan goalkeeper on a free transfer. The Ligue 1 side then added Gini Wijnaldum from Liverpool and Sergio Ramos also both on free transfers.

However, PSG business did not stop there, and they produced the transfer coup of the summer bringing in Lionel Messi from Barcelona on a free transfer. The Argentinian superstar will link up with former teammate Neymar, world-class forward Kylian Mbappe and compatriot Angel Di Maria to form one of the most threatening attacking line-ups in Europe.

PSG also signed young wing-back Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan for £54 million to bolster their wide options for the coming season. At just 22-years-old, Hakimi has already made 179 senior appearances for Borussia Dortmund, Inter and Real Madrid.

With several exceptional additions to their already talented squad, PSG will be a force to be reckoned with this season. After a disappointing 2020/21 season, where they missed out on the Ligue 1 title and exited the Champions League in the semi-finals, expect PSG to be back amongst the major honours this season.

Chelsea

Champions League winners Chelsea left their transfer business late during the summer window. The Blues were linked with top players, including Erling Haaland early in the transfer window. But they didn’t move until the final weeks.

It was worth the wait as the West Londoners signed prolific striker Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan for around £100 million. The signing was big business for Chelsea, who sorely lacked goals in the Premier League last season. Lukaku will provide the attacking threat to compliment Thomas Tuchel’s highly organised and defensively astute Chelsea side.

Chelsea then added experienced midfielder Saúl to their ranks on deadline day as he joined on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid. It was another clever signing by the Blues, who added more know-how to a team that lacked experience last season with the likes of Mason Mount, Timo Wermer, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech all finding their feet in English football.

Man United

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has built one of the most talented squads in the Premier League with the additions of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho during the transfer window.

The high-profile signings are a sign of intent from the Red Devils as they hope to launch a competitive title challenge against top-flight champions and rivals, Man City.

Sancho and Ronaldo will add an extra edge and provide competition for an already prolific attack of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial. Varane will add world-class experience at centre back to partner Harry Maguire. The French international will also provide further depth with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

With additional depth and competition, United should be more competitive in the 2021/22 season after falling 12 points short of the Premier League title last season.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s incoming transfers were overshadowed by the departure of some household names at the Bernabeau. Centre back duo Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane both departed after long-term careers at the club.

However, Los Blancos have made some clever signings to replace their outgoing players. The Spanish giants brought in experienced defender David Alaba for a free from Bayern Munich, and they signed sought-after prospect Eduardo Camavinga for £28 million from Rennes.

The pair bring European experience with them to Madrid. Alaba made over 400 appearances for Bayern, won 10 Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues. Despite being just 18-years-old Camavinga also arrives with plenty of top-level experience in Europe and Ligue 1. The centre-back already made 88 appearances for Rennes across three seasons and will likely continue to develop at the Bernabeau under Carlo Ancelotti.

The two signings show a shift from the Galactico years and the £100 million-plus spending on Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard. Instead, investment in Alaba and Camavinga shows a more frugal approach by Madrid to re-build a new squad with a blend of experience and youth.

Portugal and Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo was announced as the winner of the 2014 Ballon d’Or award, which is presented to the best player of that particular year. Cristiano Ronaldo will not return to Manchester United, Says Angel Di Maria

Manchester United attacker Angel Di Maria has revealed that his former teammate and former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford is highly unlikely.

Ronaldo’s potential return to Manchester United has been well documented by the media despite his agent Jorge Mendes stating that his client will finish his career at Real Madrid.

Now, United’s record summer signing Di Maria has played down such rumors. The 26-year old, who played with Ronaldo for four seasons, said, “I don’t think he [Cristiano Ronaldo] is coming back to Manchester. It’s hard to quit Real Madrid.

“Maybe, but I think he’s having a great time and I don’t see that he wants to change.”

The Argentinian continued that he was lucky to be plying his trade for a big club like Manchester United after leaving Spanish giants Real Madrid, “Thank God I have the opportunity to be in big clubs. Things got better for me, I got better. Being in big clubs makes you get used to these things.

“That they [the Man United fans] sing my name or ‘Argentina Argentina’ fills me with pride.”

Di Maria had a brilliant start to his career in England after being his side’s best player in the opening games despite his side not doing all that well. However, his good form was halted after an injury.

In his absence, United haven’t done badly as they have managed to go unbeaten thanks to some good displays by their captain Wayne Rooney. Di Maria had some kind words for his teammate, “[Wayne] Rooney is a quality player.

“He has an amazing mindset and desire to play every game that is unmatched. He plays every game for 90 minutes.

“He’s always giving he best, fully in every game. That has surprised me. He is a player who deserves to be here.”

Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has arrived in Manchester (Old Trafford ) ahead of Portugal’s international friendly with Argentina on Tuesday.

Manchester United faithfuls would love to watch CR7 in action at Old Trafford. Cristiano Ronaldo is on prime of his form at the moment and has scored 18 goals in just 10 La Liga games this season. Current ballond’r winner is also holding a record of scoring in last 9 league games with 17 goal consecutive run.

Here are the pictures of Cristiano Ronaldo arriving in Manchester and also training at Old Trafford,

Ronaldo won’t be the only ex-player to return to Manchester United’s home ground. The match will also feature Nani, who is still a United player, spending this season on loan with Sporting Lisbon. We can also expect some boos for another ex-striker Carlos Tevez who left the Old Trafford club on bitter terms.

Making the fixture even more interesting, CR7 will go head to head with Lionel Messi’s Argentina. Old Trafford will witness two greatest footballing talents of this generation in action on Tuesday.

Shocking Transfer News For Manchester United Fans As Ronaldo Set To End Career With Real Madrid

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at the Spanish capital for the rest of his career. Ronaldo was being linked with a shock return to Old Trafford in the last few months as the Manchester United faithful tried to woo him back with a banner.

Ancelotti spoke to the British press ahead of the Champions League game against Liverpool. The Italian said, “Everyone can be changed and replaced but Ronaldo is the best player in the world. If he left Madrid it would be a huge loss.

“But that won’t happen because he will end his career in Madrid.

“I am 100% sure Ronaldo won’t be at Manchester United next season. 100%. I can’t be wrong because he is happy in Madrid. Everyone wants to be here.

“The club is delighted to have the best player in the world. At the moment the relationship between club and player is perfect.

“So I don’t think that is going to change. Ronaldo will end his career at Real Madrid.”

Ronaldo has carried his brilliant form from last season which led to the Ballon d’Or ahead of 4-time consecutive winner Lionel Messi. The Portuguese international broke a 71-year La Liga record by scoring 15 goals in the first eight matches of the season. He leads the goal charts at the moment and just to give you a brief idea of his dominance, the next highest goal scorer, Neymar, is 7 goals behind him!

Since leaving for Real Madrid in 2009 for £80m Ronaldo has been in irresistible form but only won the Ballon d’Or last season for the 1st time with Real Madrid. If he continues scoring the way he is right now, then there won’t be any doubt in who will win the award next year.

Ronaldo will next face old rivals Liverpool in the next fixture and will lick his lips looking at the poor Liverpool defense who have kept just one clean sheet this season.

This will indeed be a shocking news for Manchester United’s fans as they were very vocal in their request to United board to bring back the celebrated winger back to Old Traffor. They even went to level of sending a plane to be flown over Real Madrid’s game against Villarreal with the message ‘COME HOME RONALDO’.

Ronaldo’s Agent Teases Manchester United: CR7 Will Cost 1 Billion Euros

Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes has revealed that it will take close to €1bn to sign him from Real Madrid.

“The price of his clause is €1,000m (€1bn). I’m sure he’s going to beat his personal record if there’s no physical problem.

“Nothing is impossible for Cristiano and he will continue to evolve and improve until he retires. Note that Cristiano is a winger, not a striker, and his numbers are outrageous. He plays very far from goal and has to make a great effort to reach the penalty area.

“So everything he has achieved has more merit. Everyone can see what he’s like; phenomenal.”

Mendes’ words comes a day after he had said that his client will stay in Madrid for the remainder of his career after certain reports linked the 29-year old with a return to his former club Manchester United. So, it’s more like saying, “Stay away from my client, you can’t afford him.”

Manchester United fans even tried to woo back their former star with a “Come home Ronaldo- United Reel” banner a few weeks ago. The Portuguese international represented Manchester United 290 times and scored 117 goals after joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2003. He lifted the Ballon d’Or award in 2008 and moved to the Bernabeu for a record fee in 2009. Since then, he has appeared in 257 games for the galacticos, and has scored an amazing 269 goals. Last season, he lifted the Ballon d’Or award for the second time in his career and in the process, he broke Lionel Messi’s 4-year domination over the prestigious award.

He signed a new 5-year bumper contract last season which that will keep him at the club until 2018, his annual income is close to €17 m.

Ronaldo has been in terrific form off-late after scoring an astonishing three hat tricks in his last four La Liga games! However, a fee of €1bn is definitely exaggerated, even by Ronaldo’s standards. He is at the peak of his powers at present and it will be next to impossible for any club to sign him, even more so when he is playing for a football powerhouse like Real Madrid.

Manchester United Target comments on his future; Can Red Devils Sign Him?

Look away Manchester United fans! This piece of news won’t soothe you eyes. According to reports in English Tabloid Mirror, Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he is happy at Real Madrid despite rumours linking him with a return to Old Trafford next summer.

ronaldo-511859

The links intensified when a Manchester United supporters’ group paid for a plane to fly carrying a banner “Come home Ronaldo” when Real were taking on Villarreal in a League clash.

In a Twitter plea, United Reel group claimed: “We are all united by our love for Cristiano both as a player and as a person. We stand united in our views and will not stop until we BRING RONALDO HOME!”

Ronaldo has been tight lipped over his future at the Spanish capital and despite leaving the Red Devils in 2009, there have been reports with the current Ballon D’Or winner returning to England. Ever since his £80m move in 2009, Ronaldo has taken his game to an altogether different level. He has been in breathtaking form this season too, scoring 14 goals in 10 appearances for the Lod Blancos.

Ronaldo could look to leave the Spanish giants following high profile departures of Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso out of the Bernabeu.

However when asked about the message carried out by the plane by Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Ronaldo responded: “How could I not see that plane? It flew past 10 times. I always said that I have a family to Manchester but I’m good in Madrid. I’m glad of the affection that United fans have for me, it means that I have left good memories.”

The recent developments would come as huge disappointment for the United faithful who have grown desperate to see their prodigal son return to the Premier League. With United now having Louis Van Gaal in charge and a new dawn to look at, Ronaldo’s sheer presence could lift the mood at Old Trafford.
