With Arsenal and Manchester City both playing tomorrow, Chelsea had a chance to stretch their gap at the top of the Premier League table to four points. Jose Mourinho rallied his side and led them up to the Hawthorns to take on a West Brom side who sat in the bottom three before the game kicked off, but things didn’t quite go to plan.
Roy Keane has never been one to mince his words. The former Republic of Ireland boss is the type of man who you enjoy when he’s on your side but you loathe when he is the opposition, but he upset some Manchester United fans while he was playing for the club by labelling them the prawn sandwich brigade – or something to that effect.
Eden Hazard snatched the headlines this weekend with an incredibly-taken hat-trick against a sluggish Newcastle side. The Belgian has been in tremendous form this season and has been labelled by Mourinho as the best player in the world under the age of 23, and I would have to agree with that. While the country gets ready to watch the Blues midfielder rip West Brom open later today, I feel as though the Baggies, and everyone associated with the club, are currently sweating at the thought of it.
With the likes of Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky in their attacking spaces, and Lukas Podolski in reserve, and with Theo Walcott recovering from injury, Arsenal have a notably strong offensive unit. They are able to play with freedom as a result of their solid midfield as well, with Mathieu Flamini, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta in the central areas, but up top I still think they are looking light of quality.
Chelsea have the chance to stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League table this evening as Jose Mourinho takes his team to West Brom. The Blues are currently a point ahead Arsenal and two above Manchester City, but they both play tomorrow evening so the west London side could be sitting on a nice cushion by then.
Despite the huge success that Sir Alex Ferguson enjoyed while in charge at Manchester United, there were certainly areas that he could have improved on. By no means was he poor in the transfer market, but there have definitely been some flops over the years.
As if it hasn’t been hard enough for Tottenham fans this season watching their team struggle for periods, sack their manager and watch Arsenal sit at the top of the Premier League, their goalkeeper is now apparently hinting at a move to their bitter rivals could be on his mind. Nothing is official of course, but it appears that the French goalkeeper has told his compatriots Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny that he’d be happy to make the switch across the capital.
Jose Mourinho isn’t renowned for his work with young players, but he can spot a talented youngster from afar and knows how to bring them into the first team squad – just look at what he has done with Eden Hazard this season.
